Being A Club for Every Kid and supporting the youth of Milwaukee takes a village, and one of the best ways to lend a hand is through volunteering. Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee is fortunate to have tremendous community partners who feel the same way, one of which is Kohl’s. As one of the largest retail organizations in the world, Kohl’s has a corporate platform that encourages their employees to support the Milwaukee community firsthand.
Along with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, Kohl’s has a similar mission in not only making resources available to young people but helping youth in the community gain opportunities for success. Kohl’s shows its support of youth through the Kohl’s Cares initiative. This program helps millions of people throughout the world, including our local Club members. This summer for the second consecutive year, Kohl’s and the Green Bay Packers joined forces to give our Club members mental, physical, and spiritual healing through a fun wellness day event.
Over 100 Kohl’s associates came out to our Bradley Tech High School Club to assist more than 200 Club members in learning about healthy life skills, different methods to clear and relax their minds, and explore a variety of ways to stay active and healthy. Kohl’s volunteers and Club members were split into groups and rotated between six different stations consisting of chalk crossword puzzles, healthy lifestyle trivia, quilt making, a dance station, outdoor yoga, and outdoor football stations.
Among the Kohl’s volunteers, Tara Geiter works as the Director of Community Relations. She actively supports and helps promote the Kohl’s Cares initiative. When asked about what Kohl’s Cares means to the organization, she says, “At Kohl’s, giving back to the community has always been a big part of the culture of the organization. Volunteering has been something that associates at Kohl’s have embraced because they see the importance of giving all children a chance at a better life.”
Through this relationship, Kohl’s associates have the opportunity to see the impact they have on Club members. In April, Kohl’s gave a $3 million gift to Boys & Girls Clubs of America to support social and emotional training within Clubs across the nation.
Kohl’s is one of many organizations that shows how much it believes and cares about Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee through volunteering. The support of volunteers plays a big role in impacting our members. Whether you’re with a corporate group or volunteering individually, you too can join the movement to impact our future leaders.
